·         And from one of the comments… There is something that puzzles me about all of this. Why is it that couples who don't feel financially stable enough to marry, feel financially stable enough to have children? I see this behavior over and over again and simply don't understand it. Children are a financial burden while marriage (at least between two employed people) lessens financial burdens. Why do these couples perceive a greater financial burden in marriage over the expense of raising children?

What will your kids remember about their childhood?

Will they cherish the trip to the theme park, the Xbox360, PS3, or the cell phone you bought them?  Or will they remember dad cooking pancakes for them, wrestling with them on the floor... and mom writing those special notes for their lunchboxes, or cheering for them at their games?  Our children won't reminisce about big events and big-ticket items. Rather, their hearts will be warmed by memories of the love, caring and companionship you showed them day-to-day.  Those are the things that will make a lasting impression they will carry with them into the future.  Take a look at these 10 Tips for Better Family Time and remember, your family first.

Will you choose to love?

When we first feel the stirrings of attraction, we say that we are "falling in love," but that implies that it's out of our control.  The truth is, love is a choice - a decision.  One we need to make every day.  When a relationship is new, it's easy to bask in the emotions and "feel" the love, but what do you do when, like the song says, "You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling?"  Well, you have to decide to show love - to make a conscious choice to be patient and kind regardless of how you feel.  In today's blog, I'm going to share 10 Strategies to Restore an Ailing Marriage. So choose love, and remember, your family first.

Greetings:

ACF awards billions of dollars in grant opportunities on an annual basis. These awards are designed to help us carry out our mission, for which we rely upon the work of States, Tribes, and organizations at the local level. In determining which of these projects will be used to execute the ACF mission, we partner with individuals across the nation to serve as objective grant reviewers. Grant reviewers are critical to our grant award process.

As a part of the ACF Accessibility Initiative, key ACF programs are recruiting and engaging new reviewers in the process. The grant review process is mutually beneficial for the Federal government and the reviewers. The Federal government and tax payers benefit from field expertise and knowledge of the reviewers, ensuring that our projects address relevant and emerging issues in the community. At the same time, reviewers obtain knowledge about the Federal grant award process and grant application requirements, which can be taken back to the community and applied when developing proposals.

The purpose of this note is to invite you to register in one of ACF's grant reviewer databases. Below are brief descriptions of some of ACF's key program offices, and links to their respective sites where you can register to become a reviewer. If you have expertise and knowledge in the applicable areas (or know of someone else that does), please follow the link (and/or forward this note) and take the first step in partnering with ACF in its grants review process. If you have already registered with us, thank you for your willingness to partner with us!

Administration on Children, Youth and Families (ACYF): administers the major Federal programs that support social services designed to promote the positive growth and development of children and youth and their families; protective services and shelter for children and youth in at-risk situations; and adoption for children with special needs. These programs provide financial assistance to States, community-based organizations, and academic institutions to provide services, carry out research and demonstration activities and undertake training, technical assistance, and information dissemination.

Administration for Native Americans (ANA): promotes the goal of self-sufficiency and cultural preservation for Native Americans by providing social and economic development opportunities through financial assistance, training, and technical assistance to eligible Tribes and Native American communities, including American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Native Pacific Islanders organizations.  ANA provides funding for community-based projects that are designed to improve the lives of Native children and families and reduce long-term dependency on public assistance.

The aim of these services and activities is to increase the capacity of individuals and families to become self-sufficient, to revitalize communities, and to build the stability and capacity of children, youth, and families so that they become able to create their own opportunities.
